The first thing Sophie ever said to Sam was, “Can you peg up my tent?”. As he later clarified in his vows, it was not a euphemism – unfortunalety! When a love story starts with a line that good, you just know the wedding speeches are going to be an absolute masterclass in storytelling.
And they were.
Some people love sweeping drone shots and slow-motion everything. Me? I’m all in for the audio. A great story will always beat a pretty picture, and your wedding film’s script is written by you and the people who know you best. It’s hidden in the speeches, the vows, and the inside jokes that fly around the room.
Sophie and Sam’s day at the stunning Llantilio House in the UK was a perfect example. Their ceremony, speeches and conversations were just hilarious, and perfectly British. We’re talking about tales of stealing gin from parents , having Prosecco for breakfast , and the groom having a severe case of FOMO, which a groomsman helpfully defined as an acronym for “greedy bastard”. The proposal story alone, which apparently involved a lot of excited profanity from Sophie, is one for the ages.
This is the magic. It’s not about creating a perfect, polished version of a wedding day. It’s about capturing the real stuff: the sarcastic jokes, the emotional breakthroughs, and the vows that feel genuine because they sound like the two people saying them. With their two dogs watching on, Sophie and Sam proved that a wedding film doesn’t need to be overly romantic to be full of love.
It just needs to be honest. And if it’s funny as hell, even better.
